Maddon’s Rock Ralph Hammond Innes was a British novelist who wrote over 30 novels, as well as works for children and travel books over six decades.

Maddon’s Rock tells the story of the 5000-ton freighter, Trikkala, outward bound in convoy from the Russian port of Murmansk was mined in the early hours of 5th March, 1945, approximately 300 miles north-west of Tromso, Norway. There were only eight survivors and the Admiralty listed her as sunk. Yet on the 16th May, 1946-over a year later- the Trikkala is radioing an SOS as she batters her way through a gale a hundred miles north of the Hebrides.
